Children's Privacy Notice

This notice explains how Fableling protects children's privacy, in line with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the UK Age Appropriate Design Code, the GDPR, and similar laws. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

The short version: a child's profile holds only a nickname and an age group. We collect no other personal information from children, show no ads, and use no third-party advertising or tracking. Parents are in control at all times.

1. Who controls a child's account

Fableling accounts are created and controlled by a parent or guardian (an adult). Children do not create their own accounts. The parent adds one or more child profiles and manages them.

2. What we collect from children

We do not collect a child's real name, birth date, photograph, voice recording tied to identity, home or email address, phone number, precise location, or any biometric identifier. There is no free-text field for children — they choose from menus only — so there is no way for a child to type personal information.

3. How we use it

Solely to generate age-appropriate learning stories and quizzes, personalize them with the nickname, and show progress to the parent. We never use children's information for advertising, profiling, or sale.

4. Parental consent

By creating a child profile, the parent/guardian confirms they consent to this limited processing on the child's behalf. We record the date and version of that consent. Because we collect only a nickname and age group and use them only to provide the educational service the parent requested, our data practices are designed to stay within COPPA's limits.

5. Parental rights

At any time, a parent may:

To exercise these rights, use the in-app controls or contact privacy@fableling.app.

6. No ads, no third-party tracking

We do not display advertising to children and do not embed third-party advertising SDKs or trackers in the children's experience. Our security-related technical data (used to prevent abuse) is not used to build advertising profiles.

7. Data sharing & AI

To generate stories we send only non-identifying selections (nickname, age group, chosen topic and style) to our AI providers. We do not share children's information with advertisers or data brokers.

Model training. Our primary AI provider is currently used on a free service tier, whose terms permit the provider to use submitted content to help improve their models. For children's stories, what is submitted is a nickname, an age group and a topic choice — the app has no field for a child's real name, photograph, voice or contact details, so none of those can be included. We are stating this rather than leaving it to be inferred, and moving this workload to a tier that excludes content from training is a priority.

No recording. The children's story experience never uses the microphone. Stories can be read aloud by your device, which is output only — nothing is captured or sent. Speaking practice, which does involve recording, exists only in the adult exam-preparation modules.

See the AI processing and sharing sections of our Privacy Policy.

8. Retention

Child profile data is kept while the account is active. If a profile is inactive for an extended period, we may warn the parent and then purge it. On a deletion request, we remove the data within 30 days.
